Nach einem Jahrzehnt der Arbeit in der Geheimdienstwelt, lässt Snowden sein privilegiertes Leben und seine Familie hinter sich. In Hongkong gab er ein Interview für The Guardian, enthüllte seine Identität und seine Absicht: Transparenz.

"I carefully evaluated every single document I disclosed to ensure that each was legitimately in the public interest. There are all sorts of documents that would have made a big impact that I didn't turn over, because harming people isn't my goal. Transparency is."

With his inside knowledge, he knows very well, that he will be made to suffer for his actions, but he is willing to take it. It was his choice for the sake of transparency. Snowden doesn't want to end up in a world of surveillance.

Mit seinem Insider-Wissen, weiß er sehr gut, dass er für seine Taten Opfer bringen wird, aber er ist bereit, die in Kauf zu nehmen. Es war seine Wahl für das Wohl der Transparenz. Snowden will nicht in einer Welt der Überwachung enden.

"I'm willing to sacrifice all of that because I can't in good conscience allow the US government to destroy privacy, internet freedom and basic liberties for people around the world with this massive surveillance machine they're secretly building."

Im Interview bekommt man den Eindruck eines ruhigen, lässigen, aber intelligenten Mannes mit klaren Prinzipien.

"I don't want public attention because I don't want the story to be about me. I want it to be about what the US government is doing."
